The RC-2A12-2 is much more than a compact conventional trickle charger for 12 volt lead-acid batteries. This fully automatic charger has been repeatedly used to bring back to life discarded batteries when other chargers could no longer charge them to a small fraction of the original capacity (this does not include severely damaged batteries with cracked cases and disconnected cells). Careful tests have also been conducted with new batteries (manufactured in the same month and fully charged) where the batteries increased in capacity after the initial loading; while other leading retail chargers were shown to cause a decrease in useable capacity with each cycle of charging and loading the battery. These were not able to fully charge the batteries as indicated with an hydrometer measuring the specific gravity of each cell.
Instead of conventional constant current or constant voltage DC charging, batteries charged by electrical pulses with
specific shape, frequency, and magnitude trigger improved electrochemical energy transfer in the battery. Because of
this, the life of new batteries can be dramatically extended, and the capacity of older batteries, previously unable
to be adequately charged by conventional means, can be increased.
